Last month saw the 50th birthday of CITB, they have made a big difference to UK construction but with the industry facing rapid change, we all need to help reinvigorate the image of the sector to attract the best and the brightest talent to the industry. Recent research identifies that as many as 35% of Careers Advisors believe construction to be an unattractive career choice. CITB’s ‘Educating and Educators’ in England report surveyed over 800 careers influencers and uncovered an all too common perception of an out-dated industry, conforming to traditional stereotypes.

Managing Director, Derek Godfrey said:
“We are always keen to encourage young people, along with those looking for a career change, to consider a career in construction, which is why every year we offer apprenticeships across all trades. Shortly we are also looking to recruit trainee Estimators, Surveyors and Contract Managers.”

With Derek on the advisory board for the Employer Learning Board at Sussex Downs College and also director of the Eastbourne Education Business partnerships he can certainly play a big part in inspiring the young people of Sussex to consider Construction as a career path.
